Haswell is a real improvement for laptops with integrated graphics, for desktops it’s barely a sidestep, less than 5% average improvement over Ivy Bridge in CPU-related tasks at the same clock frequency and less than 1% improvement when running games using a discrete graphics card. Anyone with at least a Sandy Bridge in the box should be utterly uninterested …
Intels High End consumer-platform, s.2011, could be more interesting if it weren’t for the fact they haven’t even released the Ivy Bridge-offspin for that platform as of yet. And that one will only be maximum six-core, when it’s Xeon-counterparts have been eigth-core since a long time. In short, desktop computing is standing dead still right now. All that is exciting is happening with portable platforms like smartphones and tablets, and that is it, sad but I guess it is some sort of progress anyway. I will save some money though, as my 2600K-box will be fine for a couple of years more
